How to Start the New Year the Right Way?

How to Start the New Year the Right Way?

by: Minister Melissa Morales

Have you ever asked yourself as a child of God what are the things you should be planning for a productive whole year? Perhaps, most of you already planned ahead and by the Grace of God, you are confidently going to accomplish your goals. This kind of attitude is great BUT how many of us are really listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit? Frankly, sometimes we tend to listen more to what we desire rather than obeying the call of the Lord. Don’t get me wrong, setting a vision in our lives is a must. After all, “without vision, the people perish (Proverbs 29:18).” You might be opposing me for stating this Bible verse which really pertains to keeping God’s Word in our daily lives. Well, this is exactly what I mean. The Holy Scriptures is our guidance before living this earth whereas our visions are our guide to keep our hope that one day we will achieve the goals. In short, having visions and missions every year or every now and then is essential in one’s life to be productive. However, my point of acknowledging the Holy Spirit of His Divine conviction is crucial in each passing day. Since we are discussing plans, goals, visions, and missions; will it be great if we also allow our God to listen closely to His voice? Here are some points on “How to Start the New Year the Right Way?”

Starting Your New Year the Right Way

1.) Obey to the Conviction of the Holy Spirit.

2 Corinthians 7:9-10 states, “ yet now I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended and so were not harmed in any way by us. Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death (NIV).” These Bible verses are straightforward and it is important to every believer to have a repentant heart. We may have a better plan for this year than the last one, but an unrepentant heart will surely lead to eternal death. Let us re-evaluate ourselves by having constant and quality time with God to listen to His voice, and follow God’s will in our lives.

2.) Set Goals.

As our Holy Father says in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future (NIV).” This made me realized that if God who is the Almighty One has a plan for me then it gives me the right to create my visions. So, who we are to stop dreaming? God never stops us to have goals and dreams. In fact, if our visions are according to our God’s plans; He will surely give us the strength and favor to achieve our heart’s desire.

“Jeremiah 29:11 made me realized that if God, who is the Almighty One has a plan for me, then it gives me the right to create my visions. So, who we are to stop dreaming?”

3.) Take Actions.

Hebrews 11:6 says, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him (NIV).” Pretty much, the Holy Bible is saying to us that having Faith alone will not work if one is refusing to take action. If we are truly a believer in Jesus Christ then we seek Him, especially in the morning, and not only during emergencies, but ALL the days of our lives. We share the Gospel of Jesus Christ because we believe that He is the only way, the truth and the life (John 14:6). Furthermore, it is true that our God is all-powerful, and our lives here on earth are temporary but it does NOT mean we should careless about our body, our day to day life, our future and the people around us, especially our loved ones. We are all accountable and responsible for everything we do with our own lives and toward others. So, we all need to take action while we are still living.
