2 Wise Ways on How to Store Up Treasures in Heaven

by: Pastor Isaias T. Songcuan Jr.

In our article for today, I am encouraging you to open your Holy Bible to Matthew 6 verses 19 to 21, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (NIV).” As you can see I am not referring of investing money, possessions or treasures nor I am not preaching about prosperity. We are going to talk about storing treasures in heaven, and how are we going to? Here are the 2 Wise Ways on How to Store Up Treasures in Heaven:

1.) God First.

Before I proceed, I would like to make it clear that there is nothing wrong with wealth and being wealthy. In fact, in Ecclesiastes 5:19. “Moreover, when God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil—this is a gift of God (NIV).” In other words, God is the one who “generously” gives resources and success. Possessions, richness, and wealth are God’s Gift to man for us to enjoy life on earth. However, when people become more concerned on the gifts rather than the Giver, these earthly treasures becomes toxic. For they become dangerous and deadly to anyone who prioritizes their valuables. The Word of God says in Ecclesiastes 5:10, “Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless (NIV).” In short, these things people possessed are pointless, and useless because it ruins their relationship with God. Therefore, loving the earthly treasures more than God is meaningless. Keep in mind, that our Lord Jesus Christ cares more about the condition of our hearts than the things we have. We must put God First above all else, and above anything.

2.) God’s Greatest Commandments.

Our time on earth is limited. We are all heading to our final destination. In the meantime, while we are still living in this world, we can make a choice to give our very best in listening and following God’s Word. We have to bare in mind, that our Eternal Perspective affects our Earthly Priorities. As it states in Micah 6:8, “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Isn’t this verse is also what our Savior Jesus Christ have said in Matthew 22:36-40? It is all about how we treat others. Our loving God NEVER insist to used our possessions against the people around us. The Lord wants us to used our wealth and possessions to extend our love, and care to others whom He also created. Furthermore, our personal relationship with Jesus Christ is the lasting treasure that starts here on earth to eternity. Knowing Jesus is more worth than having earthly treasures where “moth nor rust destroys” (Matthew 6:20).

Every human being regardless of their age and status in life has some sort of treasures. It could be tangible valuables such as money, clothes, cars, properties, and possessions. There are also intangible treasures such as relationships, education, idea, accomplishments, reputation, and so on. These kinds of treasures are the things that people place their affection and attention on. Why not try to Ask Yourself on what treasures that is more important to you and you are afraid to lose? In this way, you can examine your heart and be transparent to God. Remember that our God is the Author of Love, so, let the Holy Spirit move in your life, and start storing treasures in heaven. Choose your treasures wisely. Reconsider your priorities in life. This message about “Treasures of Heaven” is an invitation to develop a Godly Character. To God be the Glory!
